update: |
Yet another update: I created a "Team" for all periods of Psych in MS Teams. I've also invited you to "Office Hours" from 1-2 pm tomorrow--totally optional, but I plan to do this weekly to allow for questions, etc. Based on your feedback thus far, we can all use some flexibility, so let's see how it goes!

3/23/20: Please be sure to continue to check both the SHS, Skyline IB, and ISD websites for the most up to date information regarding our time away from school. We will likely still have many unanswered questions, but hopefully your experience with me has helped prepare you for some of the ambiguity we're all currently facing. As always, feel free to ask questions, but understand I may not have any more information than you do...I'll try to answer as best I can.
I will be updating my website weekly, providing opportunities to continue to practice skills we've been working on in class, as well as the chance to "preview" material from our remaining units within the IB Psychology Curriculum--the Socio-Cultural Approach (How timely as we practice our "Social Distancing"!), and our "Options" unit...this has traditionally allowed for student choice and creativity, and I think our current circumstances may allow for this to also be very relevant and timely--more details in the coming weeks!
You may direct questions to me via email: [email protected]

Current Implications for SHS IB:
That is all we know right now...please check back...updates will be made as we more becomes clear to us.
Thank you in advance for your patience as we navigate this unique situation.
- We are working together the next few days to determine the best way to support students in the completion of work that due at the next IB deadline. This is largely the Internal Assessments (IAs) for every subject. The school and students are in a pretty good position to get most if not all this turned by the new IBO deadlines. Further comment on this will appear here in the next few days.
- We are still awaiting direction from the District about the viability of online instruction - but teachers are preparing to support students in any way they are allowed to - stay tuned.
- While IBO is still holding the May exam session there are too many local variables to know whether we will be able to hold exams or not. IBO is still exploring options about how to make final grades for students. In the coming days you will see a request from us here to sign up as volunteer proctors for a potential SHS IB Exam session. While we don't know if it will be possible we want to be ready should we be able to hold exams.

Final requests for submission: ONE ADDITION (per a student with a great suggestion!)
Addition: As ALL submissions will now be going to IB, it's best that we also have a "CLEAN" version of your work. I have added a submission entry for this version on TII.com. So, no highlighted sections, revisions, etc. for this version...Please email me with your questions!

- It would be incredibly helpful to both you and I if you're able to scan your rough draft and rubric with the feedback I provided.
- I understand if you're not able to do this in these times, but as I've tried to make clear through the year, HUMANS are marking this...I find it much easier to award marks when I can see the transition, and editing of your work, and it helps me recall conversations in which we may have had a direction to which we agreed. So, while not a requirement, it can only help you--would greatly appreciate you submitting a scanned version of your RD/Rubric to TII.com as well.
- In each section:
- Highlight the changes you made in relation to the rubric and/or my feedback from the rough draft
- i.e. The research hypothesis is that when participants use deep processing they will recall more words than participants who use shallow processing.
- Feedback would be what is the IV/DV and operationalize...
- i.e. The research hypothesis is that participants who use self-referent encoding will recall significantly more words from a list of 40 words than participants who engage in shallow processing. Self-referent encoding will be accomplished by asking participants if a word describes them. Shallow processing will be accomplished by asking participants the structural question, is the letter “e” in the word.
- The independent variable is the level of encoding (structural or self-referent); the dependent variable is the number of words recalled from the original list.
